how does overpopulation affect the environment

Overpopulation is one of the most serious problems which is affecting the world in many negative ways. No matter how much efforts are being made in order to get the over booming population under control, it is getting more and more difficult to tackle the problems associated with it.

One billion people are getting added to the world every year, and some of the problems include shortage of resources, war and conflict, overcrowding, health issues and problems in survival of other species of the ecosystem. There are even more problems which you can talk about when it comes to over population. Some of the main and most common problems are given below.

how does overpopulation affect the environment

Shortage of Food

According to statistics, one out of every seven people alive in the world goes to the bed hungry. More problems like malnutrition, starvation and other hunger related diseases are very common in poverty struck and over populated areas. Food distribution would come to a more balanced level only when the population would come under control so that everyone is able to sustain.

Quality of Air

In many parts of the world, people are facing problems like asthma and other breathing related health issues because there is an increase in industrialization and production in order to meet the requirements of a large population. This causes the air pollution and in turn, spoils the quality of air.

Lack of Oil and Gas

The amount of energy resources like oil and gas which are currently available are not really enough to sustain the future generations. People have already extracted a lot of quantities of fossil fuels and it this large number of population does not switch to sustainable and eco-friendly alternatives; the fuels are going to get exhausted very soon.

Depletion of Ozone Layer

We all are aware with the common problem associated with the depletion of Ozone layer which causes global warming. This is because large number of people cur more trees in order to build cities to live in, use more fuels, burn more wood and create more industries. All this cause pollution which contributes to the depletion of ozone layer of the earth which allows the harmful UV rays of the sun to enter the earth easily.

Depletion of Forests

As people increase, they need more and more space to live in. Cities need to be developed and hence, more and more forests are being cut down which is creating an imbalance in the environment. When there are no forests, it directly gives rise to global warming as there is no way to control the rise in the temperature as well as allow the people to breathe in fresh air.

All the above given consequences of over population are very serious and affect the humans in a very harmful way and hence, it is an important duty for each one of us to take care of not to contribute towards fuelling these harms of overpopulation and also take steps towards creating awareness for controlling population of the world.
