Building more than required

Don’t build an extra-large green house as maintaining it and keeping it away from impacting the environment in a negative way can be difficult. So only build as per your necessities and this can only be done with advanced planning.

Not thinking ahead

Before building a green house, make sure you think ahead of time. If you plan to live in the house for 20-30 years, then make sure you take proper considerations of space and resources in mind.  Prepare the house for the future and according to the needs of the people who will be living in it in the future.

Not using solar energy

Another common green building mistake which one often makes is not using solar energy.  You have unobstructed access to solar energy from 9 am in the morning to 3 pm in the afternoon and this is the best natural resource which can make a green home possible. So make sure you make the most of it and consider it in your designing plans before you plan your building.  This means that your home or office must be facing the southern side and is made up of material which absorbs and radiate the solar heat.

Not doing proper research

You can’t just wake up one morning and decide to build a green home. There is a lot of research that goes into it regarding materials to be used, energy sources to be considered and location of the house.  Not educating yourself is also a common mistake and must be avoided at all costs. Make sure you go for nontoxic, low voc and recycled products wherever possible.

Not minimizing the carbon footprint

Another mistake which people make while building and living in a green home is that they do not minimize their carbon footprints.  This means that you must dispose of all waste materials and products like machines, building products and harmful substance which are not of any use.
