At the beginning it might seem to be easy to perform HR specific tasks, but in the majority of the cases, it’s not that easy to be working with people. This is why HR Software was created.

The main tasks of the HR department are to keep track of the performances of the people, incomes, skills, and so on. In order to make the work of the HR people easier, a lot of the processes have been automated.

Why to use a software?

One of the main objectives of using such software is to increase the performance of the department, make sure that all the tasks are accurately done, not to mention that such an investment could help the company save time and money. In case you make such an investment, you can reduce the unnecessary paperwork.

There are different kinds of software that are user friendly and also quite inexpensive. The advantage of these programs is that they reduce the work that people have to do, and it will take a lot less time to find the information that you are looking for.

As an example, in case you are interested in an applicant’s application form, with the help of the software it is easy to find all the information that you need regarding the competencies of the given applicant and also the interview that the person in question had. The software that is used for purposes of this kind is known as Applicant Tracking Software.

Who can use the software?

One of the major advantages of these products is that they aren’t targeted for any specific kind of organization. This means that their use doesn’t depend on the size of the company or the field of occupation that it has.

One of the fields that it could help you is staffing. This is because it offers information regarding invoice and payroll. These types of software are known as time and attendance products. This makes it possible for the HR department to make sure that the employees are truly working when they are supposed to.

The users can also create to-do-lists with the software, and since they have fewer duties, they can handle other matters that are more important, such as giving conferences, handling appointments and meeting reminders.

One of the most difficult tasks of the members of the HR department is to make sure that all the processes are going smoothly. This is the area that the HR Software helps the most with. The different processes can be smoothly transferred in the department. Since the software would be handling a lot of the tasks, it is possible to decrease the errors made by humans. This can make the organization in question more efficient.

At first, the investment might seem to be big just for a simple software, but you have to be thinking about all the advantages that these products have to offer and the things you can gain by using the features it comes with.

The iPads are gaining more and more popularity during these days and this is why there are a lot of designers who have come up with eco-friendly accessories to make the use of these little gadgets greener.

Corksleeves

The sleeves that we are talking about have been made of sustainable cork originating from Portugaland then they have been manually created in theUnited Kingdom.

In case you would like to have one of these little things, you should know that the cork comes in only one color, but in case of the stitching you have several options to choose from.

Pakuma Eco-Cocoon

What makes this item interesting? Both the lining and the outer materials are made of recycled plastic bottles. There is also protective foam used that is recycled too.

The packaging of the product is made of recycled paper and the printing has been done with the help of soy based ink. There are four different sizes to choose from and two different colors.

Marware Eco-Flip and Eco-Vue

In the majority of the cases people opt for black casing, and this is why this product is also black. The main material that the product is made of is organic leather. The difference between this leather and regular leather is that in this case during the process of tanning there have been fewer toxins used. The difference between the two products is that one of them opens like a book and the other one opens like a notebook.

ColcaSac

These products are manufactured by hand in Salt Lake City, and it is good to know about the company that it donates a given percentage of the incomes to buy land in environmentally sensitive areas. The product itself is make of fleece and hemp and it offers a snug fit, so that there will be no slack between the iPad and the case.

Vers Audio Bamboo iPad Case

This is an elegant product that is made of hardwood and renewable bamboo. For strength there is a hidden metal frame. It is interesting to know about the company that for every tree that it uses, it plants 100 back with the help of its partners. The ingredients that are used for the product all come from the US.

As you may see, using iPads can be made more eco-friendly if you choose the right accessories from the right places.

Although the majority of us take for granted things like drinking clean water, washing the car and watering the lawn, there are a lot of people who are struggling with the lack of clean water.

The majority of these people are living in Africa, where, because of pollution, drought, regional conflicts and mismanagement, millions of people die because of water-related causes.

One of the solutions that Engineers Without Borders USA came up with is a bio filter that cleans the water. The concept is based on bio sand filters and the first one has been installed in Cameroon, in the village of Nkuv.

The system consists in several layers of gravel and sand in an iron mold, having a concrete base. In 3 weeks there will be a biolayer formed that is able to remove about 99% of the bacteria . The rate of the filter is of one liter per minute and in the end it offers clean and safe-to-drink water.

Although it is easy to mistake it for a hamster ball or a kid’s toy, the ‘Solarball’, that has been created by Jonathon Liow, is also able to create clean water, using nothing but dirty, polluted water and sunlight. This method is able to clean 3 liters of water everyday.

The main idea of ‘Solarball’ is that is uses the direct sunlight in order to make the dirty water evaporate and condense. This way the clean water will be pulled to another container, while the dirt and the contaminations will remain in the first compartment.

The advantage of the spherical design is that it is able to collect and capture light (and heat) from 360 degrees.

Although at the moment this new method is able to produce quite little water, it might be the starting point of a new product that would be able to save lives in those regions where fresh water represents a problem.

There is another project that takes the previously presented ones to a whole new level. The main purpose of this one is to make the African deserts more suitable for agriculture.

According to statistics, although about 57% of the inhabitants of the continent are involved in some kind of agricultural activity, only 10% of the land is truly suitable for this.

The introduction of a system able to transform the water vapors into irrigation by processing the hot African air is truly revolutionary and it will make a difference in the quest of making the African desert a cultivated land.

In case you are wondering whether the e-Reading is green enough, the answer is yes, especially if you choose the right company producing the e-Reading gadgets.

Recently there are many innovations in this direction, but according to the last researches, the e-Reading is 140 times more green then a printed newspaper. The CO2 emissions from a newspaper are exactly 140 times more than its electronic counterpart.

So, the e-Reading has lots of advantages for the green lovers. The e-readers have another reason to love Toshiba’s latest gadget, but what matters is that this is the company that finally achieved something very important for the green lovers that love to read their books in an electronic variant.

Kindle revolutionized the concept as a bestseller. Nook from Barnes and Noble added the color option and iPad created a new and daring challenge along the e-Reading option.

The portable technology is a miracle, but there is often a problem associated with it: you can’t always get power supply for it, especially when you are traveling.

This seems to be no longer a problem for Toshiba’s Biblio Leaf eReader. The secret of Biblio Leaf is in its base, which contains a small solar cell that allows recharging the device anywhere you get sunlight.

Another of the Biblio’s bonuses is the six-inch e-ink display, which is an improvement compared to other e-Reading items. As for the connectivity, the company producer made its best to offer 3G and Wi-Fi connectivity, as well as a stylus.

The Biblio Lead eReader is equipped with two gigs of onboard storage and if you think that’s not enough, the device supports SD cards, which means you can pack in up to 3000 books!

This amazing e-Reading device will be available on the Japanese market and will be part of a contract for 3G service, but soon it will be released for the U.S. market too. The good news is that its price will be quite affordable – only $20 per month, which is surprisingly a low price for such a device.

Many e-readers are concerned about the charging process. Biblio Leaf has a good and eco-friendly design in this matter. It takes 12 hours in full sun to recharge the batteries and you can put into 2 hours of use. Perhaps the solar panels are slow, when it comes to recharging, but this device is surely better than the others, because it takes less time to power the batteries. The Biblio Leaf is surely the smartest choice of e-Readers on the market and it will please any environmentalist.

One of the most serious and growing environmental concerns is that of the mounting problem of industrial waste; it is a problem that has grown with the rise in personal electronics, most obviously, mobile phones. This is why it is important to recycle mobile phones.

Most people have never recycled a mobile phone which has reached the end of its lifespan. Despite the fact that this service is completely free (in some cases, recyclers will even pay for mobiles), it seems many people still opt for the quick solution of simply throwing their old mobile phones in the bin.

Data from the Environmental Protection Agency show that, in 2005 alone, discarded electronic products, including mobile phones, amounted to from 1.9 to 2.2 million tonnes.

Of that, a staggering 80-90% ended up as waste in landfills, with only a few thousand tonnes of discarded electronic products ever being recycled.

It is important, however, that mobile phones and other electronic products are recycled at the end of their lifespans; due to the low costs of electronic products, which have dropped sharply in recent years, mobile phone technology has become available to everyone.

Indeed, 85% of adults in the UK are mobile phone users, while 4 out of 5 children own a mobile phone before the time they are 11 years of age.

Due to some people owning multiple mobile phones, there actually more mobile phones in use in the UK than there are people. Obviously, this has had a great impact on the volume of electronic waste being produced.

This is exacerbated by the rapid nature of technological development, which, coupled with planned obsolescence, leads to mobile phones often being replaced within a year or less of first being purchased. The effect of this is that electronic waste is increasingly an environmental problem.

There exist, however, a number of websites on which it is possible to recycle mobile phones.

It seems like the world is putting a lot more focus on being “green” – finding responsible ways to preserve and even enhance the environment. There now exist many different ways Americans can “go green” including recycling, conserving energy and smarter automobiles; add to the list environmentally-friendly cell phone use. It doesn’t take a lot of effort to save a lot of energy, and the high-tech equipment we use every day does more than we realize to harm the environment.

Each year, over 65,000 tons of waste is calculated and attributed directly to unwanted cell phones. Landfills pay the biggest price, acquiring about 82% of the 2.25-millions tons of waste from high-tech equipment.

That means that only 18% of the electronic waste is recycled, and that number is not enough. We can practice being “green” by starting with our old, unwanted cell phones and laptops; it is simple and preserves the environment.

Recycle, Recycle, Recycle!

The first step is knowing what to do with your unwanted cell phone. People have had great success selling their old phones, and it is a way to keep it out of the garbage dump! Companies will sometimes refurbish old phones that are turned in and sell them again to poorer countries.

Retailers have lists of phones online that they are interested in purchasing back used; so it is easy to find. You can also donate your unused phone to charity. If not, find a retailer like Best Buy or Radio Shack that has a phone recycling center; they’ll do the rest.

Consolidate!

You really don’t need multiple devices that do the same things, like handhelds that play music, games, video and other applications that can be done with a Smartphone. It is important to start thinking about ways to “go green” without depriving yourself of things that you want or need.

It is possible to find all the applications that you can ever desire on a single device, and the newest Smartphone’s are it. The picture and sound quality is incredible, giving you instant access to everything on one gadget – less to use, less to recycle!

Renewable Energy!

It is true that companies are now selling chargers for your cell phone and laptop that are powered by solar and kinetic energy; it’s all renewable! You can find these products through many internet companies and the new innovations are appearing all the time. You can charge your cell phone while you bike ride, charge your laptop walking to class or just driving around the town. It’s so easy … and efficient!

Green High Speed Internet!

Companies are in an all-out war over customers as the green movement charges onward. Incentives are ways for one company to attract customers away from another company, and these incentives often work. In fact, you can go online and compare incentive packages before making your decision! Consumers are the winners here; you get rewarded for helping companies improve the environment.

Apple just announced 100% recyclable laptops to customers who buy their mobile broadband, while other companies will donate to environmentally-friendly charities, plant trees or go over the top with a gesture to enhance our world.

Cell phones, broadband, laptops are all things that we are using on a daily basis. If we take the time to recycle, conserve energy where we can and research greener options, we will be helping to truly make our world a better place to live.

I often Google for eco-friendly high speed internet providers in my area and have found some to be very reliable and priced very well even against the big providers; so that I get piece of mind for each and every byte of data that gets sent down the line.

E-reading and e-books are slowly conquering the world. The same options started to look interesting by the end of last year for the schools and universities especially because the information flow seems a lot easier to manage and comes in a significantly higher quantity.

What makes the digital books so interesting?

Let’s remember that e-books became extra popular because of the viable alternative of e-readers which became quite a trend this year.

If at home our kids find it interesting to read Harry Potter and Twilight novels on their Kindle or iPad, why would they do the same in schools?

Japan is known for the progressive attitude towards the gadget world and for the fact that it was one of the first countries that encouraged in the educational system the emailing of homework.

The digital textbooks look like the logical step in the world of learning. It is natural but it is also completely untraditional.

The initiative of the largest publishing companies to get in line with the trend is going to save a large quantity of paper but will also get the kids tempted in learning something interesting using a cool gadget.

Many US universities and colleges have students accustomed to the procedure of downloading the courses and of course the procedure involves interactive software but also the chance of using the computer.

With the large number of students that prefer the computer for the many communication possibilities it has and also the multitude of interactive software it comes with, the e-learning process will have to be accommodated by a green gadget.

This type of e-reader would have to integrate wireless, support applications like IM services and social networking but mainly the chance for interactive studying.

So far Japan leads the way in creating textbooks for schools and with this school year the interactive study with the help of the computer comes with all the perks related to internet and the information flow spread all over it.

The traditional education system is still reluctant when it comes to giving up books. The standard approach of information taught out of a book and Shakespeare read out of an old school novel makes studying English as traditional as it can be.

But in a world where kids would rather see the movie than read a book, the digital era has brought along a completely different flavor to reading. Bringing that flavor in school will make teaching a greener but also a completely different matter.

E-books! Really? What exactly is an e-book? An e-book is an electronic version of a book that is read on an e-book reader such as a Kindle, a Nook or even an iPad.

These are electronic devices that are specifically made for e-books.

You purchase the e-book and download it to your e-book reader and then read your book.

If you get a virus or if someone out there in cyber land decides that you do not need that particular book anymore, they can delete it at will.

You will not be able to prop up your table with your book if it is in electronic form. You will not be able to loan it to your friend when you are done or even trade it for a new book at your local book trade store.

So then why are e-books outselling traditional hardcover books? They are not outselling them by a small margin either.

According to recent numbers from Amazon over the past three months there were 100 hardcover books sold for every 143 e-books that were sold. You might be able to blame this on the price of the Kindle dropping from $259 to $189, but that is still a bit high on the price, just to be able to read something which you will probably not ever read again.

Think about it like this though. At first there was the phonograph, then came the 8 track player, after that we had records, cassette tapes, CDs and now MP3s. Everything progresses including the written word.

It seems like the written word just progresses at a slower rate than music does. First there were cave drawings and hieroglyphics, then scrolls, then books and now apparently the new horizon for the written word is the e-book.

Please keep in mind though that all of the numbers mentioned above included only hardcover books and e-books that were purchased.

If free e-books were taken into consideration then of course the numbers for e-books would have been considerably higher. However, conversely if paperback sales had been taken into account, then the numbers for traditional books would be considerably higher too.

A lot of people tend to wait until the book that they want comes out in paperback because of the savings over hardback books. Either way, the numbers would have been skewed if either of these factors had been taken into consideration.

Mitchell Joachim, a 39 year old architect who has various degrees from universities like Columbia, Harvard and MIT, has a clear vision of creating sustainable products from the existing technologies only.

Some of his designs include houses developed from living trees, machines such as ‘WALL-E’ which can help in constructing bridges and buildings from reprocessed material, jetpacks and low-height airships having hanging chairs so that many be used as ski-lift for the pedestrians in New York.

Joachim, a professor of architecture at the New York University, is also a co-founder of a no profitable design group – Terreform ONE which is working towards making a sustainable urban plan.

One of the projects includes designing and development of recycling machines which can crush and compress the waste materials to form new structures which can be used for various purposes.

The recycling system which he has named Rapid Re(f)use, reshapes the crushed material into useful products. Joachim states that if architects can design roads and building, then they can also design cars, and other various products to make a more sustainable, healthier and better world.

An annual meeting named Terrefarm is called by Terreform ONE in which scientists and architects come together to share the techniques, technologies and ideas for making Earth a better planet. For a new project Terreform ONE has transformed the terrace area of a building from Brooklyn into their new laboratory for various experiments.

This goal of this new project is to determine the ways of preparing very lightweight soil mixtures and to maximize the existing sunlight so that rooftop gardens may be developed.

They would also work on Joachim’s new project line which he has named Fab Tree Hab. Through this project, he wants to develop houses from living trees by fixing or attaching the growing trees with each other. Other plans of Joachim include smart cars which would work like trolley cars. These cars would travel on cables and could cross large gaps and rivers without bridges.

Joachim is also designing jetpacks which would be flexible and soft and can make individuals fly. He has a vision of making this facility accessible in another 20 years.

The dean of architecture from the University of Toronto, Richard Sommer, appreciates Joachim’s vision of making a green and healthier life. According to Joachim, in another 150 years, the cities would be flooded with such things which can make the survival difficult, so the work for making a sustainable life should be started as soon as possible.

Google has a new surprising green initiative that might make happy millions of people. The company cooperates with Spectrum Bridge for creating a smart grid wireless network. This so far was only in the field of dreams and many giants have tried to build such network.

Even the utility companies are facing problems about it and certainly for many companies, it is a financial risk to start such a project.

Google has chosen Spectrum Bridge for a partner, for the company is eminent for using the so called “white space” between the TV channels. For now, the partners are performing a beta test in California.

The test has to give an answer about the communication between the wireless electrical grid and the unused TV bandwidth, both operated trough Google’s Power Meter. If the test shows a good communication between them, this means the country will have the first smart grid wireless network
