Many manufacturers are thinking about coming up with hybrid cars to make sure that in the future the roads will be filled with cars that don’t have gas emissions. The use of the electric vehicles is supported by the economic situation and also by the concern for the environment.

Naturally the infrastructure that is needed for such a change isn’t completely ready but since more and more cars of this kind are hitting the roads, this is a problem that ought to be solved sooner. Until we will be all able to use electric cars, the best thing we can do is to own a hybrid car.

Recently, Lexus has come up with a hybrid downsize SUV that is meant to help Toyota as well. The main point is to bring down models like Audi Q3, BMW X3 and Range Rover Evoque. It looks like in the future there will be an SUV of this kind released by Toyota as well that will increase the company’s market share.

The truth is that there are still a lot of secrets regarding the new model, there is one thing that is certain: it is going to be a hybrid model. Naturally this is no wonder if we take into consideration the models that the new model will try to compete with.

There is no other information available yet. We don’t know what kind of design it will have or how powerful it will be. Still there are some rumors regarding the price range, of about $48,000 in the United Kingdom.

You may think that the manufacturer is quite brave to introduce a car of this kind, but others could say that it is about time. At the moment there are quite few hybrid models, and the manufacturers who create new cars of this kind will be able to rule the market in the future.

The SUVs of Lexus had a lot of success and they have become very popular. Maybe this is why it took so long for the company to come up with a downsize SUV which is something different that they have been dealing with until now. Still we can expect the product to be successful because of the current trends. According to specialists, these are the cars of the future that all of us will own.

The main point of the electric vehicles is that they don’t have carbon emissions and they don’t require expensive fuel. Since the fuels are getting more expensive and people have become more environment conscious, it is no wonder that the vehicles of this kind became more important. The manufacturers including Toyota, BMW and GM are focusing on these vehicles.

Challenges

Although everything seems to be perfect in the world of EVs, there are some problems with them as well. The battery technology that they use is under a lot of strain these days. Considering the fact that the smaller gadgets finish their batteries in a few hours, just think about what kind of batteries the EVs need.

Given the truth about batteries, the EVs can operate for a relatively short period of time, and there are only a few charging stations, so the EVs don’t seem to be the perfect solution. This means that they can’t really replace the conventional cars.

Ultracapacitors

There is a new kind of alternative to make the EVs operate for longer periods of time. They are known as ultracapacitors and their main feature is being able to store energy; they can store large amounts of energy. They can be charged and discharged many times without degrading.

They have a longer life cycle and they don’t need to be replaced so often. These ultracapacitors can capture and store energy. They are developed as a substitute for the batteries, and if the project is successful, pretty soon all the EVs will be running on these ultracapacitors.

Trends

In the transport departments and in the military, the ultracapacitors are already being used on a large scale. Although we would have never thought, even the Humvee may go green if the ultracapacitors seem to be suitable for them. This way the dependence on fossil fuels will be dramatically reduced.

Ultracap buses

There are some companies that are already testing the ultracapacitors in case of electric buses. So far the experiment seems to be successful, but the researchers have to take into consideration that the routes will require several charging stations. The buses need to be recharged every 2-3 miles in bus stops. The ultracapacitor banks are located under the seats of the bus.

The world of taxis could be changing for the better in a big way very soon. While professional drivers are already saving money through LPG gas, low deals from Staveley Head taxi insurance and better driving techniques to lower fuel consumptions, an entirely new generation of taxis is emerging that could seriously work in the environment’s favour, making cities and towns cleaner in the process.

It all looks set to take off at the Olympic Games in 2012. With 18 months to go before the start of the greatest show on earth, Intelligent Energy announced that it was running a taxi cab that uses hydrogen fuel cell technology that may be released in time for the Olympics, and it didn’t lose any of the popular characteristics of the standard London black cab – in fact, it retains the shape completely, as the technology is simply fitted under the bonnet.

The firm estimated that the fuel cell taxi would have a modest top speed of 81 mph, take 14 seconds to hit 60 mph and would have a range of over 250 miles on a full tank of hydrogen – an excellent array of features.

The new taxi does not produce any emission and also has the added bonus of taking mere minutes to fill once more – a massive amount of time saved when compared to the hours needed to charge an electric car.

Commenting on the developments, Intelligent Energy’s Henri Winand told the Guardian that the infrastructure required to run a hydrogen-based transport system is marginal, and could be established quickly and effectively. “With fleets you can deploy a little infrastructure, which you can build up with the more fleets you have, rather than going straight to consumers who might be wondering where the next filling station is,” he said.

The benefits are clearer to all. Taxis will be able to run at a much cheaper cost, meaning that customers can continue to afford journeys after years of having prices dictated by increasing fuel levies and inflation.

Larger profits will be reaped by companies embracing the new technology in a much shorter term than they may believe – the initial investment in such vehicles would be compensated by low fuel costs, less down time at filling stations and better rates of taxi insurance. CO2-related charges, which are increasingly being rolled out across the UK and Europe, would also not apply.

All-in-all, 2012 stands to be a great year for carbon-neutral technology – so long as people understand the benefits of it, it’s almost certainly going to prove popular.

There are more and more environmentally conscious people, and in case they are looking to get a new car, it has to be green. There are a lot of different options, and so you might be wondering which one would be the best choice for you.

1. Vauxhall Ampera

The good news is that this is an electric car that has no limitations when it comes to the range. There are no emissions regarding the tailpipe and it could take you 50 miles using its battery. In case you run out of electricity, you can switch to the generator that works using petrol. Although it isn’t really used to make the wheels work, it is rather used to recharge the battery.

2. Renault Zoe

In case you have been thinking about Nissan Leaf but you don’t have the money for it, then you should give this car a thought, because it costs a lot less, and you don’t need any petrol or gas to make it work. The truth is that the two companies are working together regarding the development of the green cars, and so you will find the same technology in both cases.

3. Renault Twizy

Actually, it is more like a scooter with four wheels than a real car, so it is just perfect in case you would like to have some fun without damaging the environment. Although the idea might seem to be appealing, you should know that there are no windows or doors whatsoever so you have no protections against the elements of nature. The total weight of the vehicle is of 450 kg.

4. Peugeot 3008 hybrid

We may have seen petrol and electric hybrid cars, such as Toyota Prius, but now Peugeot has come up with the diesel electric hybrid car. It is able to go for 3 miles using only electricity, and then starts using the petrol engine. The advantage is that it consumes a lot less than the traditional diesel engines. Also, it has four wheel driver ability.

5. Volvo V60

This is also a diesel and electric hybrid and it has the capability of all wheel drive. Also it can reach 150 mpg. Although this seems to be almost impossible, the vehicle will be available starting this year. The car has been created on similar basis as Toyota Prius.

As you can see there is a lot to choose from, no matter what kind of car you are looking for.

Every family has at least one car, but many of them have one for each member of the family. This means a lot of cars, and so a lot of these people have realized that they are doing a lot of harm to nature, forcing them to try to switch to green cars. Which one to choose?

Chevrolet Volt

The good thing about this car is that it can store energy that is enough for a day for the majority of people. It is easy to recharge and it has to be driven just like a traditional car. You don’t have to be afraid of remaining without the car, because it can also be used with gasoline.

In the majority of the cases the users need about 9.3 gallons of gas yearly. The federal tax credit in this case is of $7,500 and in some of the states the car is eligible for rebates of $5,000. This is also a good choice in case you are concerned about your safety, because it has been named one of the safest green cars of the year. The warranty for the batteries is of 8 years or 100,000 miles.

There are also some disadvantages of the car, such as the high price of $41,000. For a period of time it has been available only in six states, but in a short while it will be available in the whole country. In case you are using the gasoline engine, you have to buy premium gasoline, which costs 20 cents more than the regular gasoline.

Nissan Leaf

The advantages of this car include the fact that you don’t really need gas, since the electric engine covers the needs of the majority of people. For you to refuel the car costs you about $2.75. There is no need to change the oil. This means that the owners, unlike the owners of a Prius, can save about $1,360 because of maintenance.

The federal tax credit for the Leaf is of $7,500 and there are rebates available ranging from $2,000 to $6,000. Just as in the previous case the warranty for the battery is of 8 years or 100,000 miles.

There is a lot of space for the passengers and you can fit three child seats in the back of the car. This is also a safe choice when it comes to green cars and it is very easy to recharge.

In the past few days there has been a lot going on in the field of aviation. For sure you have heard that two American airlines, Alaska Airlines and United Airlines, have started limited flights using only bio fuels. Although in theU. S.it has been a big thing to be using such fuels, there are some European airlines, Lufthansa and KLM Royal Dutch Airline, which started using them earlier.

In July it has been granted for the airlines to use the fuel that has been created of animal fat and plant oils. These renewable fuels have been mixed with equal amounts of traditional fuel.

Where does the fuel come from?

You can be sure that you won’t be feeling the smell of French fries every time a jet flies by. There are different kinds of fuels that the companies can choose from, including cooking oil, algae derived fuels and plant based oils.

In all of the cases these fuels are mixed with traditional jet fuel. Usually the companies go for the plant oil derivatives.

There are two main plants used for creating the fuel: camelina sativa, also known as Gold of Pleasure and jatropha curcas. The good thing about the plants is that they can grow almost anywhere and they need very little water.

Nonetheless United Airlines is using another kind of fuel, the one based on algae that is produced by Solazyme. The truth is that the fuel isn’t entirely renewable because it is made of 40% algae based oil and 60% traditional jet fuel.

Emissions of carbon

The goal that people are trying to reach is to reduce the carbon emissions by 2020, and it is said that the emissions can be reduced by up to 1% in case the airplanes have the right engines. Nonetheless, professionals are hoping that in case the planes start using 100% renewable fuel, this will be reduced by 2%. Even at this moment it is possible to reduce the emissions by one ton every flight.

Alaska Air has stated that the steps that they have been taking aren’t entirely green, because they are using cooking oil based fuel, that isn’t produced locally. The raw material comes fromTexasand it is processed inNew Orleans.

Although the process isn’t perfect yet, we can be sure that the airline companies are on the right track, and there will be some improvement.

In today’s climate it is all about how to economise and reduce each individual’s carbon footprint, enabling the protection of the planet for the nation’s offspring. One area that is particularly targeted is the energy that is used to power the car engine.

There have been for many years images of what the cars of the future may look like. Indeed changes have been quite dramatic since the first car was produced, not only in shape but also in power.

There have been over the years various proposals as to how best to power the engine that drives the car. Hybrid engines, electric cars and hydrogen cars have all been proposed or developed over the years. The electric engine has progressed in order that the battery can be removed and recharged away from the car.

The hybrid engine uses compressed air, which it is claimed will reduce the energy used by the car by approximately 30%. Which may beg the question, ‘does this all affect the insurance policy on the vehicle?’ Insurance companies tend to be ahead of the game, there are even now companies that provide temporary car insurance, which can be useful for those ‘one-off’ trips that require cover.

It is not only fuel that has been considered by car manufacturers in the pursuit of low energy vehicles. Performance of the car is essential and should not be compromised. One car manufacturer has engineered a vehicle that has taken this idea into production and uses computational fluid dynamics in the design of the vehicle to produce an ultra low drag using considerably less energy when driving at speed.

Another car manufacturer uses the gasses that are emitted from the exhaust system of the internal combustion engine to power a steam engine, which contributes to the power of the vehicle, resulting in energy savings of an estimated 15%.

So with all these developments on the energy savings of the future, is the car insurance industry keeping up? The truth of the matter is that the car insurance industry has developed massively over the last 20 years or so, typically online. Offering a great deal of variations that were before unheard of, temporary car insurance, classic car insurance, multiple car insurance policies, but to name a few. One company in particular even started its life online and now is a global affair.

So, it is fair to say, that the insurance companies of today will still be offering relevant car insurance deals tomorrow, including temporary car insurance and some other new innovate deals.

These days every person wishes to have his or her own car, but there are many people for whom this isn’t a real necessity, but rather a personal preference. In case you drive less than 500 miles a month, you are the perfect candidate for car sharing.

There are numerous possibilities offered by the manufacturers to make you get rid of your car. These come with numerous modern technologies, including the use of smart cards instead of keys, smart tracking devices for security and also mobile apps for registration.

The people working at BMW have found a solution for one of the most common problems of car sharing: picking up and dropping off locations. This company has presented a solution: offering numerous BMWs and Mini Coopers that could be left at any location.

This is said to be the first car sharing service that offers vehicles at random locations. All this would have been impossible without smartphones, location-based apps and GPS.

Those looking for a car just have to use the app on their smartphone to find the nearest vehicle. According to the promotional video, in case you see a car of this kind on the street all you have to do is to make sure that it is free and just jump in.

To register for the program, you just have to use your driver’s license. Unlike the other programs that use keys and smart cards, this company applies an electronic sticker to your license, and so it is turned into a key.

In order to start the engine there is need for a PIN to be introduced for the engine will not start without it. The cost of the service is of 29 cents and that includes gas and also a parking space in the city which normally implies a lot of fuss and a large cost.

At the moment this service is available only within the city streets of Munich, but according to the company, they would like to develop the idea and make it available for the majority of the big cities.

It’s not only the Germans who thought about such solutions. The service has been available in America since the 1980s and it seems to gain popularity again due to the high gas prices.

Zipcar is known to be the largest project of this kind, having 550,000 members. This company offers the members radio frequency identification smart cards to access the vehicles and reservations can be done with the help of mobile apps.

There are some things that up to now every camper had to think about, and it all starts with transportation. For going camping we need a car that requires fuel, and besides transportation there is also need for accommodation. Fortunately the new technology that is available to mankind makes it possible to have everything in the same place.

One of the most stunning futuristic transportation is called ‘Ecco’. This car has been designed by Nau and for sure it will become the favorite means of transportation of the technology freaks.

The car offers it all: transportation, speed, and above all, freedom. This car could truly become the home away from home. It is equipped with requisite luxuries and so it makes sure you won’t have to think about fuel or accommodation on the road.

Ecco has been created to have a very sleek design and this is why it is able to travel at high speed, cutting back the wind resistance. There is a membrane roof that folds in order to capture the highest amount of solar energy possible.

The device offers all the conveniences of a small home for there is a kitchen, a toilet, a shower and also a living area. Besides all this, there might also be an extra bed (for guests of course).

The exterior has been created of the fines glass and aluminum, and so the weight is very light. Since the car is powered only by electric energy, there are no emissions at all so it is really eco-friendly and there is no pollution.

Another car that might seem to be more realistic at the moment has been created by Volkswagen and it actually is a remake of an older vehicle. It is an i-Pad enabled minibus and it has the name of Bulli. Although this isn’t a new model, the new car has everything that the old one lacked.

The electric motor it has is able to create 85 kW of power and the distance that could be made between two charges is of about 186.4 miles. The iPad that has been mentioned incorporates hands-free communication and also a GPS.

Although the car seems to be extremely modern, there are still some things that the company kept from the old model. These aspects include the bench seats and also the two-toned interior. The disadvantage is that the company also seems to have kept the top speed of the car, of 87 mph.

These are pretty much all of the similarities, but one may wonder whether these are enough to awaken the nostalgia some people feel for the bohemian ‘60s.

The company had a huge success when they reintroduced the Beetle, but this might not be such a success story. In the end the car resembles a boxy thing with a semi-pronounced hood and it doesn’t seem to be the symbol of the counterculture anymore.

Nonetheless the proportions are right: nothing is too big and nothing is too small. Actually the car is somewhere between a minivan and a Mini Cooper both quite fit for cruising towards the camping spots of the world.

The cars in our days seem to be able to do everything, they almost drive themselves, but there are some things that seem to be impossible for them, and one extremely important thing is being eco-friendly.

While we might think that this is an important concept for people, there are still numerous persons who are willing to make a financial effort to get ‘monster’ cars.

One of them is Bugatti Veyron. This is said to be the fastest car in the market, but in the same time it is the most polluting for the environment. It takes less than three seconds to go from 0 to 60 mph.

This supercar got a Green score of 19, while the highest scoring 2011 car, the Honda Civic GX got 54 points. The only good news is that the car is way too expensive to be bought by many people.

Another monster that the green people have to look out for is the Chevrolet Suburban K2500. This car got a slightly higher green Score than the Bugatti Veyron, 20 points.

Also in this case people might have a problem with the sum of money they would have to spend on their car, because those who fill the tank once a week might have to spend about $8000 yearly only on fuel. At this sum of money it might be more efficient to get a Prius.

The Dodge couldn’t miss from the list either. In this case the Dodge Ram 2500 Mega Cab made it to the black list and this is one of those four pickup trucks that appear on it. In this case also the score is 20.

The same score has been earned by the Chevrolet/GMC G2500 Cargo Van. Truth is that usually these cars are used more on the highway than in the city, and they are pumping toxic gases into the air as they go by.

Nonetheless there is some good news as well. There are some eco-friendlier alternatives, like Ford Transit Connect Electric Cargo Van.

Ford also managed to create a monster this year. The F-250 model got the score of 20 and the interesting thing about this model is that the potential customers hardly find the fuel efficiency rating of the truck.

On the other hand they will be able to find videos comparing this model to its competitors the Chevy Silverado and Dodge Ram. The customers shouldn’t let themselves fooled by the FFV designation.
