Haiti Earthquake : Who’s given What ?
Posted on Feb 04, 2010 | Comments 18
The global response to the Haiti earthquake has been extraordinary and generous. But in the midst of all the reporting, it’s difficult to keep track of the numbers.
In particular, who has given what, who has dug deepest, and how the Haiti relief fund compares to those of other tragedies.
These are the contributions to the Haiti Earthquake recovery effort as of 24th January 2010.

Is this estimated from government giving or from private citizens of the country? For example, countries like Sweden have centralized government charity spending – while the US has much less government charity but a vast amount of personal private charity spending.
Ahem…. GO CANADA
The Netherlands broadcasted a nation wide program in which over 80 million euro was collected ( about 100 million usd ). I couldn’t care less about this list but if you post something then better make sure you are correct
Canada rocks
Yeah, pretty bad description…
It’s supposed to be ‘Government’ donations rather than domestic. It’s still hugely innaccurate, given that the US and Canada have promised payment, but not yet actually paid the full sum.
The US have actually set up an awesome supply line which is worth much more than cash itself, and sometimes the cash for rebuilding follows later, followed by the corporations who fuck everyone over backwards, forwards and sideways for said cash, and then walk away leaving a drained and toxic wasteland.. [Yes, hello coca-cola!]
Congrats USA for not making the rest of the countries in the world step up and help for a change…
ALL money supplied by governments for ANY and ALL programs are provided by the people of that country. This report makes it appear that individuals of certain countries have not stepped up and given donations. While in reality if the U.S. is the largest contributor, then the people of the U.S. are also the most giving and the most generous, even if it’s through the government. ALL government spending is based on what the citizens of a country have contributed in their tax dollars and in the case of the U.S. the spending has to be voted on by the representatives of those people.
The Canadian government has pledged to match 1:1 every dollar donated by it’s Citizens. Our population is 1/10th that of the US and they barely beat us on total donations. I would have thought George Clooney could afford more than that alone.
I know that the U.S. was full of it. U.S. first and # 1 aid to Haiti was to located those who are U.S. citizen instead of injured Haitians ones on ground with no where to go.
With all the troops embarked in Haiti, etc..most of the money they said they give to Haiti probably spending on their troops as usual.
The Dutch should top this chart
100,6 million euro which 137,5 million dollar (xe.com 1.00 EUR = 1.36717 USD)
Current amount of people in the Netherlands 16.5 million (http://www.cbs.nl/nl-NL/menu/themas/bevolking/cijfers/extra/bevolkingsteller.htm)
Amount to over 8 dollar per person which is 0,02 percent of our GDP ($629.911 bln)
2nd, 1st and 2nd places are missing, making this graph pretty bogus.
[...] Bill Clinton: It will take years to rebuild Haiti. The global response to the Haiti earthquake has been extraordinary and generous. But in the midst of all the reporting, it’s difficult to keep track of these numbers. [...]
each fundraiser raises more than these numbers, that are depicted, how come this website has such a low number?

An Earth-quake causes heavy loss. Experts call for taking adequate precautions to minimize losses. Alarmed by the recurrence of quakes during recent years, should be taken as a signal for a major earthquake.
